We left for Norfolk in the morning but only got about 2 miles when Sabrina called to say they were having engine problems and had re anchored so we did a u turn and headed back, as we had left to catch the tide it took us twice as long to get back against it we were doing only 3 knots! We got back, anchored, launched the dinghy and went over to see if we could help, we have a fuel polishing kit on board but it's 24V so Steve worked out we could run the generator to power a battery charger that would run the fuel pump so we took the whole lot over to Honey Ryder (they are 12 volt ). We set about cleaning the fuel in tank no1 - it wasn’t bad, a few bits came out but not much so after a while we moved on to tank2 - wow that was a different story it had an awful lot of fuel bug contamination - there were big gloops of organic matter!
Our home made fuel polishing kit - we did need to make an alteration for Tom and Sabrinas tank and added a mesh filter before the big one to catch the stringy lumps!

This is what was coming out of their tank.

We cleaned a lot of it out of the tank but it would have taken a long long time with our little pump to do a thorough job, luckily Sabrina had the number of a mobile fuel polishing guy and so on Monday morning she contacted him and arranged for him to come and clean their tanks at the nearby marina, we stayed with them at Fort Monroe until their fuel was cleaned and they were ready to move on again.
