We wanted to go ashore but we thought it better to get up to St Marys to find a nice spot not too far from the dinghy dock, so we headed up to the anchorage and found a spot quite easily - we later found out it was in the most turbulent part of the river and boats dance around here a lot so those in the know choose a better spot 🤣. Honey Ryder anchored not too far away and there were a few other boats here we know so it's going to be fun!

St Marys is a lovely town who’s Yacht club lay on a Thanksgiving for cruisers every year, Karen who organises the event also offers lifts to supermarket, laundry etc.
Having been boat bound for too long - we decided to head ashore and go for a wander - we didn't get far as when we went to check the venue for most of the events we met Tom and Sabrina and stayed for a drink with them before heading over to friends Paul and Lauri on 2 Outrageous for sundowners.
The following day Sabrina and myself were taken by Karen to Walmart with some other cruisers to do some provisioning, not that we needed much but one can never turn down a lift to the shops and got heavy stuff like engine oil, which is so much cheaper in Walmart than anywhere else and replenished tins, pasta, rice, flour, beer, soft drinks etc we have used since we left Detlaville. It was a bit of a supermarket sweep as Karen is busy and has arrangements to take other cruisers later.
Once back and unpacked it was time to go ashore for some socialising - the yamaha outboard wouldn’t start 🫣 but a lovely couple, Steve and Cindy on Sonder who were passing offered us a lift so we got ashore and had a fantastic evening, met some new people and generally had fun.
The next day the outboard was working again 🤨 maybe it just wanted us to meet Steve and Cindy who didn't know anyone else at that point? It was laundry run for me - again you can never turn down a commercial laundry in the states - they are big and cheap - washes cost $3.50 for middle size machine and dry $2.50. Then back to boat to make some veggie sausage rolls for the evenings boaters party - everyone takes a side dish. Another very good social event - the sausage rolls went down well even though I’m the only vegetarian! Some of the other dishes were lovely - there was a great baked artichoke dip 😋 I especially liked - will have to look up that recipe.
By the Wednesday we were in need of some exercise and headed ashore for a walk around town we love the spanish moss hanging from all the trees:
We came across the local cemetery, I liked the rules -which included no grave digging without permission 😂!

on our wandering we came across some Black vultures - which make weird noises as you approach them - sound more like dogs than birds 😬.
Saw some nice properties - some decorated for Christmas!
Others for Autumn
The walk was followed by yet another evening socialising 🤩 where we met more cruisers, everyone is heading to the Bahamas eventually so I am sure we will know people in almost every anchorage by the time we get there!
Thursday was the bigThanksgiving, the town lay on turkey and ham while the boaters bring side dishes and desserts, there were some fantastic dishes - not as strange as we remember from out visit here in 2012 when there was potatoes and marshmallows etc😱. We all ate too much and had a great time. Well done and thank you St Marys Yacht Club and especcialy Karen and Geoff for arranging such a fun time for us all.

Just a few dinghie at the dock 🤣

And then it was over - everyone is heading off in the morning as there is good wind to move south before a cold spell arrives in Georgia
