We had heard from a few people that the Eleuthera Island farm was a good place to get fresh vegetables, some grown by them and some imported, so of course we had to go and see for ourselves, we moved the short distance to the disused Runaway Marine, anchored near by and took the dinghy in and beached it at the far end of the marina, the docks and the surrounding structures were too derelict to get off onto.
We then had a short walk to the farm shop - when we got there there were quite a lot of people queuing up waiting for it to open and after a few minutes it opened, not really sure what was going on we stayed in the queue which turned out to be for fresh bread 😳. Unfortunately nothing had prices on and the fruit and vegetables didn't have any indication whether it was grown there or imported which was disappointing, we did get some fresh vegetables but passed on the cinnamon buns which were very popular.
We stopped and chatted with another sailing couple we had met in Alabaster Bay before heading back to the boat and soon were on the move again.
This time we were heading south a few miles to go to another shop we had been told about by a couple on the beach at Ten bay, they are building a property further north but said their favourite shop was at Savannah Sound, they drive 45 mins down to it to shop rather than shopping nearer to where they are - this sounded good so we wanted to check it out - well I wanted to, and just drag Steve along with me 🤣.
After a short sail anchored near the public dock at Savannah Sound and went ashore
As soon as we left the dinghy to walk, a pickup truck stopped and the driver offered us a lift, we accepted - I got in the back with his 2 daughters who were excited we were from a sailing boat, they love sailing and go to the sailing school on the other side of the island, (which isn’t very far at all), Deja has progressed to windsurfing and is hoping to learn to foil while Deana sails optimists . They took us to the shop - which was disappointing but his wife works there so we met her as well and got a few things before having a lift back via the scenic route to see the sailing school, where they sail and then where they live. We then invited Deja and Deana to come and see Innamorata as they had never been on a big boat We really enjoyed talking to them about sailing, they were a lovely friendly family who we hope we will see again on our next visit to Eleuthera and maybe take the girls for a little sail .
