Etter at jeg hadde sendt in bloggen i går, reiste vi videre til
Kristiansand - en flott tur i skjærgården og det gjorde ikke så mye at vi hadde
vinden rett imot oss. Vi har vært i Kristiansand før, og hadde ikke spesielt
behov for å tilbringe tid der, så ve ble ombord i båten de få kveldstimene som
var til rådighet. I båten koste vi oss med en deilig fiskemiddag og et TV
program om Karibia - som fikk oss til å drømme oss tilbake til den deilige tiden
vi hadde der vi kjente igjen flere plasser! Vi følger også med i avisene og
på internett om orkan Deans herjinger i Karibia - 4 drepte så langt på St. Lucia
og Dominica.
Vi dro ifra Kristiansand klokka ni i dag tidlig med kurs mot Mandal eller
videre dersom vinden løyet. Selv om metrologene spådde at vinden ville løye og
dreie sørlig, hadde vi fortsatt frisk bris rett imot oss fra vest da vi kom til
Mandal. Vi smakte litt på forholdene men fant raskt ut at vi ikke gadd å runde
Lindesnes i stampesjø. Inne i Mandal var det en annen verden - sol var der
fortsatt, men mangel på den sure vinden gjorde at sommeren var fullstendig
tilstede. Alle uteserveringsstedene hadde fullt belegg og folk koste seg i
sommervarmen.
Vi har nå hatt motvind helt siden Sverige og har ikke seilt framover siden
Kosterøyene! Dermed merkes det på dieseltanken - som bare har fått etterfylt 38
liter siden Azorene inntil i dag, da vi fikk presset inn 150 liter til. Vi håper
inderlig at metrologene ikke har bommet altfor mye, og at den østlige vinden de
lover til i morgen slår til. Jeg tror faktisk at av folk man ikke stoler på
kommer metrologene bare såvidt bak bruktbilselgere i rankingen.

After the blog was sent yesterday we motored through the chain of
islands down to Kristiansand - which truly is a magnificent part of the coast.
As this stretch has plenty of shelter from the sea behind islands, we didn't
mind that the wind was on the nose. Since we have visited Kristiandsand so
many times before we didn't feel the need for exploring the town. So we
prepared a nice fish meal in the boat and had a TV evening instead. We
watched a program about the Caribbean - and we dreamed ourselves back to these
beautiful islands. However, we are glad that we are not there at the
moment. Two of the islands that we visited (Dominica and St. Lucia) we
heard got hit by Hurricane Dean yesterday and we heard that 4 people was killed
as an effect of the hurricane.
We left
Kristiansand for Mandal at 9 am this morning - again a lovely motor through
islands and narrow sounds - again with a cold fresh breeze on the nose. We
considered going further, but that involves a fair stretch outside the islands -
which we just didn't fancy. Arriving in Mandal it was another world - the sun
was the same as out at sea but the cold wind was gone and summer was in full
action. All the outdoors restaurants had full tables and people were enjoying
the late summer warm weather.
We have had
headwinds since we left Sweden and have not managed to sail one mile in the
right direction. This makes its mark on the diesel tank - which we have only
filled 38 litres in since the Azores. We filled 150 litres today - hopefully the
meteorologists have got it right for tomorrow and the wind will turn easterly
and decrease. However I trust the weather forecasters only slightly more than a
used car salesman......
