Med stadig minkende sjø og vind har vi hatt en fin tid det siste døgnet - og ny fartsrekord på 154 mil. Nå er det under 200 mil igjen som betyr ankomst Falmouth sent onsdagskveld (hvis vi greier å holde farten) eller i løpet av natt til torsdag. Selv om vi har det fint her ute på havet i sola, så gleder alle seg til å komme i land for å vaske saltlaget av oss selv, klærne våre og båten. Vi har hatt selskap av et annet seilbåt - "Tamarind" som drog fra Ponta Delgada på samme dag som oss - de var del av en regatta der ca. 40. båter hadde seilt fra Falmouth to Azorene, og skulle nå seile tilbake igjen. Det er godt å vite at det er mange andre båter her ute, selv om vi ikke ser dem. Rønnaug tok en lang prat med dem på VHF'en på nattevakten hennes.

 

Det begynner å bli alvorlig kaldt i sjøen - 15C, men delfinene har vi fortsatt med oss i store mengder. Det er utrolig godt å ha Reidar og Thorstein med oss for å dele på nattevaktene som fort blir både lange og kalde.  Det var blitt såpass kaldt og rått i båten at vi fyrte opp varmeapparatet i et par timer for å la ting tørke litt. Kombinert med en varm lunsj og at vi rundet 1000 mil på loggen steg stemningen ombord i takt med kvikksølvet i termometeret. Nå har vi bare halvannet døgn igjen av turen dersom alt går etter plan og vi ikke får uventet motvind.

 

 

The last day has seen the wave size steadily decrease as the wind has weakened and turned a few degrees more westerly. This has combined to give us a good 24h run of 154 miles - a new record for this leg. We have now just 200 miles to Falmouth and estimate arrival either late Wednesday evening or in the small hours of Thursday. Even though we are having a good time out here in the sun, we are all looking forward to getting into harbour and washing the salt off ourselves, our clothes and the boat. We have had the company of another sailboat since last night - "Tamarind" who sailed from Ponta Delgada the same day as us. They are part of the "AZAB" regatta - 40 boats sailing from Falmouth to the Azores and back. Rønnaug had a long chat with them on the VHF in the early hours. So there are lots of other boats out here even though we don't see them.

 

It is beginning to get pretty cold out here now. The sea is just 15C, but the dolphins are still with us in large numbers. It got so cold and damp in the boat today that we got the heater running for a couple of hours to dry things up a bit. This, combined with a warm lunch and passing the 1000 mile on the log mark helped to increase the feel-good factor on board in line with the mercury in the thermometer. Now we have only 36 hours or less to go till we arrive at Falmouth provided we don't get some unexpected headwinds.
