Enda en dag med leiebilen, og turen bar til Funchal som er Madeiras hovedstad. Rønnaug og Jeg har vært på Madeira før og har dermed "gjort" en del av turist-stedene som rundturen på Blandys produksjonslokaler for Madeira-vin. Dermed overlot vi Inger Lise og Ole til seg selv på en stund. Etter en felles lunsj tok vi "skiheisen" opp fra sentrum til et frodig område langt opp i fjellsidene med flotte hager og dyre hotell. Vi kjørte også en tur opp i "Nonnenes dal" som er en bratt og vanskelig tilgjengelig dal der en gruppe nonner etablerte seg for å unngå plyndring av pirater. Tid til litt spaserturer opp til utsiktspunkter ble det også. I dag er Ole og Inger Lises siste dag med oss - de flyr grytidlig i morgen, så i kveld skal vi spise middag sammen på restaurant. Another day with the hire car, which took us to Funchal whic is the capital of Medeira. Rønnaug and I have been there before and have "done" the tourist spots of the Madeira wine centre and lace production. We spilt ways with our guests to do our own thing for a couple of hours. We took a "ski lift" which runs from the centre of the city up to a fertile area in the outskirts of the city with fine gardens and expensive hotels. We drove up the steep valey known av the valley of the nuns - a place where nuns built their convent high up this almost impassible valley where they avoided the pirates who often raided the coast. We had time for some short walks up to viewpoints in the countryside too. Today ins Ole and Inger Lises last day with us - they fly home at the crack of dawn tomorrow, so tonight we will eat out at a restaurant. Today's picture shows a typical small and steep Levada.
