Lørdag, og den siste dagen før avreisen! Man merker at spenningen stiger blant alle her.

Saturday - and the last day of preparations before tomorrows start. The tension is increasing among the crews of the other boats, but we seem fairly calm. We have had a pretty quiet day as our preparations seem to be a day or two ahead of many other boats. I had an early start to the day checking out at the customs office. The skippers briefing filled a couple of hours in the middle of the day, where the details about the start, finish, weather etc were gone through. Mike joined me for this as there were two tickets per boat. The forecast looks pretty good with north easterlies of no great strength the first day, picking up to a nice sailing breeze after a day or two. The only negative aspect being the large swell (5m!) being sent down here from a distant low pressure system much further north. Rønnaug was helping her mother with a visit to the doctor again, where she has now been put on antibiotics. Rønnaug also completed the shopping with fresh meats and cheese for the first three days. Mike and Louise have been hunting for life jackets which they are getting as a delayed wedding present from his uncle, who is also participating in the ARC.

The job list has become so manageable that even low priority tasks like getting my hair cut have been completed, and now we only have the last minute preparations such as topping up the water tanks, putting the steering wheel back on etc to be done in the morning. As a closing party for the preparatory part of the ARC we get treated to a fireworks display this evening, though this is at midnight - which is not a great time for those of us hoping to get a really good nights sleep! Today's picture is from the packing of food at the supermarket before the cases are driven to the harbour.
