What a contrast in the weather from yesterday's greyness and rain! We got up early and left the harbour as the sun was coming up. Today's picture shows the first volcano we climbed bathed in the first of the sun's rays as we motored out. We sailed about half of the 35 miles to this marina on the southern end of Lanzarote, having to motor the rest due to lack of wind. We chose to sail along the rather barren west coast (5 miles shorter) whereas Dream Catcher chose the east coast for their trip. We were at least more fortunate with the wind as they had to motor the whole way. With a clear blue sky, strong sun and pleasant warmth the Canaries have again shown themselves from their better side after the somewhat unpleasant weather yesterday.

The contrast between the harbours on Grasiosa and here at Rubicon Marina couldn't be greater. Everything here is new (2002) and well maintained, there is a considerable staff on hand, power and water to every boat, all clean and orderly and an up-market tourist place with expensive shops, fine restaurants, swimming pool and all the facilities one expects of a large centre for both hotel and boat tourists. As one also might expect, the harbour fees are somewhat higher - but reasonable at 17 euros per night here compared to 7 at Graciosa, but this covers things like access to the swimming pool too.

We had an "anchor-beer" with Dream Catcher who arrived only minutes after us, then I carried the laundry over to the laundrette and Rønnaug has been feeding the machines for the rest of the afternoon. Tonight we shall eat out as Karin from Dream Catcher has her last night on board before moving out - she is going to Tenerife to study Spanish.
