Endelig sommer!

Finally a taste of summer! After a very quiet night at anchor in Portland, we were treated to blue skies and a pleasantly light westerly - and a following current which we had timed our civilized nine O'clock departure to utilize. Later in the morning it was so warm (or perhaps so much less cold) that we could be on deck without our thick sailing jackets - just normal long trousers and a fleece were enough. The forty mile trip showed us more of England's beautiful south coast. As today is Saturday - and probably the first day of decent weather since April, there were lots of other boats on the sea. Particularly when we sailed into the Solent there were boats of all sizes everywhere. We timed our entry to the Solent to be on the last of the flood tide - still carrying a good two knots of current with us. The entry to Lymington is both narrow and crooked but well marked and as it was high tide any errors of judgement would be forgiven. Every square inch of water here is occupied by boats either in the marinas or on moorings. The few visitors places are in the town itself, but there was no room for us to lie in to land and the harbourmaster allocated us space on a floating pontoon in the middle of the river - so we need to take a taxi-boat ashore, or I have to inflate our dinghy.

We are meeting up with Alan and Gill from "Kumari" - whom we met on Lanzarote and then several times in the Caribbean. Then tomorrow Nigel's parents are coming down for a visit. Today's picture is of "The Needles" at the western end of the Isle of Wight.
