Vi kunne kanskje ha kommet ut på sjøen i dag og flyttet oss til neste havn, men vi hadde lyst til å se dette stedet først. Etter å ha vært i land og handlet var det tid til lunsj (sardiner på fersk brød - deilig), og da tok vinden seg opp igjen samtidig som at det passet veldig godt å ligge i sola og slapp av. Dermed blir vi her også i natt.

 

Cariño var faktisk større og finere enn det så ut til å være fra sjøen. Vi fikk sjøsatt jolla, og kom oss i land mens byen våknet til liv etter litt fiesta i går kveld. Vi hørte musikk til langt på natta, og vi oppdaget at det var kun den første natta med fiesta og musikk her - det er årstiden for fiesta! Ganske koselig by med det meste man trenger - men helt klart ikke noe turiststed. Vi vandret langs hovedgatene og opp i byen til kirken som ligger nesten helt øverst på skråningen der det meste av stedet ligger. Det som var litt spesielt med denne kirken var at den ringer tiden med samme ringing som Big Ben i London - forøvrig det samme ringelyd som klokken til Nigels foreldre har. Vi tittet inn i kirken som er typisk for Spania med flotte trealteret og mange figurer av Maria og Jesus-barnet. Bra supermercardo der vi handlet til kveldens paella samt brød og pålegg (og vin og brus). Tilbake til en fin lunsj ombord og deretter en ettermiddagslur. Det virker som at det tar tid for den kraftige vestavinden til å gi seg, så vi får vente en dag til. Dagens bilde er også tatt fra båten, men mot den (nesten) tomme stranda med skogkledd fjell i bakgrunnen.

 

We could perhaps have got out onto the sea today and come a step closer to La Coruña, but we wanted to have a look around here first, then by the time we had enjoyed a good lunch of sardines on fresh bread, the wind had picked up again, and it was more tempting to have an afternoon sleep and sun ourselves on beck with a book. So we stay here another night.

 

Cariño is actually larger than it looks from the sea - and its description in the pilot book. We launched the dinghy and went ashore - not least to dump the rubbish which was beginning to pile up. We got ashore as the town was waking up - not that we were up early, but it is fiesta time here and we heard live music until the small hours last night. this is clearly the season for fiesta. We wandered round the main streets and into the upper parts of the town to where the church is at the top of the slope. Rather unusually, this church chimes the hour and each quarter with the same chime as Big Ben and also the same chiming on Nigel's parents grandfather clock. It is rather like being at home. Inside the church was typical of Spanish churches - cool and spartan, but with ornate altar pieces and triptychs with lots of statues of Mary and the baby Jesus. The supermercado was quite good, though there were also many small specialist shops for fruit, veg and meat. We stocked up on some provisions including the necessary for a paella this evening. Back on board a fine lunch was enjoyed, then a good afternoon sleep. Today's picture is also taken from the boat, facing this time over to the almost empty beach and forested hill in the background.
