We arrived in Taupo yesterday just in time for lunch and found a restaurant with a lakeside courtyard. Stunning views across the lake to the volcanoes in the middle of the North Island, one of which was venting steam.

After lunch we pushed on eastward and arrived in Napier late afternoon. We got an excellent last-minute deal on a motel room overlooking the seafront, and discovered the room had a spa bath in the bedroom. Double bargain!
View from our balcony across Hawkes Bay. Our room, complete with spa bath.
This morning we explored the Art Deco centre of Napier, which was rebuilt in the 1930's after being destroyed by an earthquake.
