Up early for the
50nmile or so passage to Kithnos in the Cyclades. We were leaving the
Saronic behind (and hopefully all the charter boats too!) Not a lot of
wind,so we motored a lot of the way, occasionally sailing a bit. We
arrived at the anchorage late afternoon and made three attempts at setting the
anchor before finally getting it to bite. Steve went in with mask and
goggles to check it as we would be there overnight, and although it wasn't dug
in as well as we would have liked, he felt it would be okay in the light winds
that were forecast. As he swam to look at our anchor, he passed the one
belonging to the boat just behind, and that was just lying on the bottom, its
tip upward, not dug in at all! We were glad he was behind us, and hoped
the wind wouldn't change and swing him round to our front!!
