Distance run: 29 nmiles

As we rounded the rocks off the south-western tip of Bequia this morning, we were reminded of the Needles on the western tip of the Isle of Wight.

We could have been at the Needles!

We had a glorious sail in 15-20 knots of wind over the port quarter.  We dropped the anchor at 1320 in an almost empty bay and were met by Vanessa in her rib, who welcomed us to the bay and told us a little about the island.  We declined supper at her restaurant ashore, but said we would probably pop over for a rum punch at happy hour.

It was a very quiet and peaceful bay, and we enjoyed a cooling swim in the clear water.  Later we took the rib over to the beach and had a rum punch or two before heading back to the boat for supper.  By now there were ten boats at anchor, but in the height of the season apparently there would be about thirty.

Not exactly buzzing – but a pleasant place for a sundowner.                                  The beach side bar in Chatham Bay

The beach at Chatham Bay – almost deserted…                                                  except for this unsavoury looking character!
