Marina di Ragusa: Boat Repairs and a bit of Socialising
36.46.832N 14.32.744E We thought it was about time we blogged, as it’s been a while since we arrived back in Marina di Ragusa (MdR). We spent the first week or so sorting Wanda out – giving her a good clean and taking down the sails and washing the running rigging. On the 14th September MdR had its annual “Arrivederci Estate” (Goodbye Summer)event. As usual there were fireworks on the marina breakwater just in front of Wanda. Once again it was a fantastic display and we had front row seats. Fireworks just off Wanda’s bow. Another annual event is the Ibla Buskers, in Ragusa. Last year it rained the whole evening and we spent most of the time in a bar. This year the weather stayed dry and we actually got to see some performers. Unfortunately due to the good weather the town was packed and it was virtually impossible to move around. So we headed to our favourite bar once again to escape from the crowds J One of the Ibla Buskers This year’s crowds Last year’s crowds The Marina has been filling up with boats for the winter. One of the things we like about MdR is there is a new group of boats each year. There are a small number of regulars but the majority are new. So we have been meeting lots of new people. The local travel company arranged a trip to a local pizza restaurant, where we could try lots of different pizza’s and also make our own. They also gave a demonstration of the pizza throwing. The reason we don’t see this very often in Sicily is that the dough they throw is different to the one you eat – so it really is just for show. Pizza throwing We have managed to complete one of our jobs – which was to re-vamp our shower and forward heads. As usual what seemed like a very straight forward job became much larger as we decided “oh well if we’re doing that we might as well ….” Yoyo was very happy to be back in MdR. She found a new place to sit on the back deck. The hose coiled into a Yoyo sized coil. |
