Today we went on a boat trip around the bay. Now you may think we are mad – however it was included in our “Cartagena card” and the boat stopped across the bay at Fort Navidad. However it really was a busman’s holiday!

The boat trip was very informative about the bay of Cartagena. We found out that the Submarine tunnels have never actually been used for submarines.  They are used for general storage by the Navy.

Building of Fort Navidad started in 1693 to defend Cartagena bay. The fort held 8 cannons – none of which were ever fired in anger.

After our boat trip we headed back to the boat. We spent the afternoon reading and relaxing – this sightseeing is hard work!!

Fort Navidad – you can clearly see the 8 gun positions

One of the eight canons (the rest are probably in the military museum)
