38.50.429N 0.07.131E Wednesday: Today was very overcast and eventually it did rain –
not too much rain but enough to test the hatch Stephen has just re-bedded. So
far no leaks. We then spent the rest of the day on our tax returns –
it’s so difficult to run away completely!! Good news this evening – there were some fireworks and
music coming from town – at last we’ll be able to sleep again!!
It’s also much cooler due to the overcast weather which will help on the
sleep front. Thursday: We went into town to stock up on fresh veg. When we got back
we cleaned the decks. The rain here has a lot of dirt in it and the boat had a
heavy covering of red dust. Stephen gave the front hatch a real good soaking.
Bad news – it still leaks (not as bad as before by a long way). We think
a new hatch may be the only real solution. With the boat back to it’s
proper colour we carried on with some jobs inside. Stephen fitted the new anti
siphon valve in the engine while Anne made some more straps for the dinghy (to
stop it swaying on the davits when we are sailing). We had a quiet evening in. It’s starting to heat up
again Friday: After the slightly cooler damp days we decided to make the
most of the sun and heat and did the washing. We then tested the engine to make
sure anti siphon valve was working OK – it works perfectly so hopefully
we won’t have any water in the engine room anymore. Later in the afternoon we walked into town to see if our
post had arrived – which it hadn’t – so we are going to be here
for the weekend. Saturday: After the disappointment of not being able to leave today,
we had a lie in bed this morning. We refitted the sun awning and then spent the
day cooking and surfing on the internet. |
