Marina di Ragusa -> Syracuse: OMG We've Moved!
37.03.525N 15.16.961E On Monday morning we were up bright and early (well ok maybe not bright, but it was early). At 06.05 we cast off our lines and headed out of the marina. Yes it came as a surprise to us too that our lines came off! We set off down the coast towards the southeast corner of Sicily. The sea was reasonably calm and flat, with a light wind, just what we wanted for our first sail of the season. As we got closer to the corner the wind picked up and we unfurled the genoa. Anne on the bow fixing the rope we had got slightly twisted when we re-rigged Wanda. Note the Genoa is out- we actually sailed!! The wind dropped so the genoa was furled. As we rounded Capo Passero (Southeast tip of Sicily) the wind followed behind us, so we were able to get the genoa out again. The afternoon was spent furling and unfurling the genoa as the wind decreased then increased again. At 16.30 we arrive in the bay at Syracuse. We dropped the anchor, which didn’t go quite according to plan, so up came the anchor and we tried again. This time it went better, the anchor held and we were nicely in the spot we wanted to be in. We learnt that using the walkie talkies made it a much easier to communicate with each other with Anne at the Bow and Stephen helming. Our view from Wanda. At anchor in Syracuse bay. Yoyo was so happy to arrive in the anchorage. Yoyo was not too happy sailing again. She spent the day on the bed drooling. Once we arrived she was very vocal with her disapproval and instance of something nice for tea. |
