Today the Targa Florio arrived in the Marina. The current Targa Florio rally has two categories, one for classic cars and one for Ferraris (well this is Italy). TheTarga Florio race was first run in 1906. The race is run on the roads of Sicily, especially the narrow, tortuous roads of the Madonie Mountain range The rally starts in Palermo and cuts across the middle of Sicily, then round the east end of the island back to Palermo. The first Ferrari’s set off on their stage of the rally from Marina di Ragusa at 08.30 – and unusually for Italy they were pretty much on time.

Waiting for the start

The Ferraris receive the time check paperwork – the “race” is actually to see who can get closest to an average speed over the course during the day

The route instructions – we are sure the dots have some critical meaning

So where do you put the luggage?

One of the very nice Ferrari’s

Aren’t you impressed with my classic car knowledge?  Ok I cheated – there was a list of all the cars entered and their numbers  on the internet

Unfortunately this one I can’t see the number – so I can’t tell you what it is. If anyone reading this knows then please email us (Alan and Clive – we have great hopes from you both in knowing this)

Addendum : Alan’s vote is for a “Race Spec Jaguar XK 120”. Our vote after further investigation is a “Jaguar XK 120 OTS SE – 1953”
