Today we started off by cleaning the boat after our sail yesterday. We washed the decks and hull. We then went for a walk to the marina office, which we can see from the boat and is not too far away as the crow flies but by land it’s a long walk (as Stephen found out yesterday!). We did find out the marina office are happy for us to use the VHF to call them with any questions so that should save a long walk in future. Stephen made some home made bread for lunch as there is no local baker.

After lunch we headed off to explore Vilamoura. It is a purpose built tourist resort. Around the marina are bars, restaurants and boutique shops. Once you go away from the marina there is very little to see apart from blocks of apartments and golf courses.

We found the local supermarket and were pleasantly surprised at how well stocked it is and the reasonable price for the Portuguese food – although obviously there are lots of uk foods at high prices – ever paid £1.30 for one tin of baked beans? We also went and explored a bit further away and found the cinema and the vets (we don’t need a vet just in case you were worried about the cats, but it is nice to know where it is just in case). The Cinema only shows one film a week and this week it is “John Rambo”. So after getting excited about being able to go and see a film we were disappointed that it’s not one we want to see.

After a 2 hour walk around Vilamoura we got back to the boat and decided to reward ourselves with a glass of Rose wine. We had a quiet night in watching a DVD.

The cats have spent their time outside exploring their “new garden”. Yoyo stayed on the boat today.
