17th July, 2023.

Tricia and Clive left us on Sunday for Kilada to be lifted Monday to go home.
I woke up at midnight smelling smoke but after checking everything i went back to bed. In the morning Ariel was covered in ash from fires 80/90 miles away. As soon as the wind stopped the ash fell. Unfortunately, it happened again later in the day. On Tuesday 18th the motorway we travel on to and from the airport was closed due the smoke and ash.
The sky clouded over with thick grey clouds gradually covering the bay although the sun was still there above them with burning heat. It’s made Ariel very dirty looking and we are so surprised it could happen with the fires being so far away. But when we remembered the Iceland problems many years ago and the ash covering several countries when we were in Barcelona with the airlines stopped for several days we are very lucky and hopefully Greece will manage to stop the fires spreading.
The heat wave just keeps going everyday. The water is roughly 29 degrees so only a little cooler than our body temperature.
