 Vourkari, Island of Kea

We had a lovely time anchored in the bay of Poseidon when the wind changed and we were hopping up and down.  Time to move so we left the bay and sailed the 16.20 miles to the island of Kea and into the bay of Vourkari..  The clouds grew black all around us and we managed to drop anchor and back onto the quay to where our friends from Yat Marine, Marmaris were waiting for us.  They are on their way up to Volos for a few weeks.

We had a great get together and caught up with all the news.  Due to the weather we plan on being here for a few days until Frank and Sue arrive on Friday at least.

We walked around our little bay and found the ducks and geese lazing on the shore and then we walked to the main harbour of Korissia which is around the bay passing Blue Bay which would be a great place for a swim. Very blue clear water with sand.  Korissia is where the ferries dock and bring holiday makers to the island.  The day was beautiful and sunny and the evening was quiet.  Bula hosted the early evening drinks which was very nice.

The wind is starting to build and lots of crossed anchors today.  We missed a walk as we ended up being busy helping a couple of boats moor.  We hosted a drinks evening on Breakaway as unfortunately we were anchored off the quay due to the rock rubbish in the water and Geoff could not manage the dinghy experience.

After a very nice meal at the taverna opposite Ariel we returned to the boat to find the first of three boats trying to drop their anchors and reverse onto the quay.  These kids had all hired boats but they had no experience of how to drive the boat and anchor with a cross wind.  We had one of the three boats completely across the bows of boats including Ariel.  The three of them wanted to be next to each other which unfortunately for us was on our port side.  Anchors were crossed, the skippers were having problems controlling the boats in the cross wind and it was just horrific.  This all started at about 11 p.m. and we got to bed by 12.40 a.m.

Today another problem. One of the boats with the cross anchors decided as it was blowing hard and the boats were swinging around to tighten its chain and dislodged us.  Luckily Jim had moved the dinghy to the stern and it held us off the wall. We had to leave the quay and anchor in the bay.  Fortunately, Bula was still on the quay and were hosts to Frank and Sue’s arrival until we can pick them up when the winds subsides.

The wind dropped slowly around 6 o’clock and we were able to dinghy ashore to pick up Frank and Sue’s luggage before dinner.  The six of us ate at Artros before we went back to the anchorage.   Geoff and Anne had been marvellous hosts to Frank and Sue offering them teas, soft drinks  and evening drinks on their lovely motor cruiser Bula.
