10th July, 2009.

We set off from Camarinas around 11 a.m. for Finisterre.  We left in a good NE wind which steadily increased to 25 knots as we reached Cape Finisterre. Ariel was surfing at up to 9.9 knots. We rounded Cape Finisterre with a view to anchoring in the bay by the village of Finisterre but it was too windy.  Cape Finisterre is known as the ‘Coast of the Dead’ and as we looked up to the lighthouse we could see the crosses which have been erected in memory of those sailors who have lost their lives on this dangerous piece of headland.

We decided to continue to the next Ria and make for the harbour of Muros.  After entering the Ria with the sun shining we spotted a very nice beach in a bay called “San Francisco”.  We anchored at around 4 p.m.  We had travelled 39 miles during the day.

The beach is obviously very popular with local Spanish people and so we took the dinghy to the shore and after a little debating on the temperature we all swam.  This is the first time since we left England that we have taken a dip in the sea.

The down side of the heat is the flies invaded us as soon as we arrived and there are flying ants in the air which the sea gulls are spending hours chasing.  The clever sea gulls just swim around on the water and wait for the ants to land in the sea, drown and come to them for dinner.
