Turtle Watching

Thursday 23rd August, 2012.

We woke to find the turtle very kindly raising its head just near Ariel.  It is very quick on diving so I have wasted a few photographs.  Thank goodness for digital!  The two we have watched today are quite cheeky.  One even came and swam under Ariel this afternoon after Jim threw some fish scraps in but I still missed the best photograph!  I would say the biggest is quite big and the one which keeps putting its bum in the air is quite a bit smaller.  It has been fun watching them.

We walked to find the castle this morning and found the old town where quite a few houses are crumbling.  There are quite a few projects for a craftsman with forward thinking.  This afternoon we went to the beach and swam to cool down.

Jim talked to one of the fishermen who came in on his fishing boat who turned out to be a Greek/Australian and he gave Jim half a bucket of squid.  We repaid him with a bottle of wine and beer.  He really wanted a Guinness! We spent quite a lot of time washing, cleaning, and cutting it up before putting it to soak in bicarbonate of soda for two hours.  Jim is down below keeping an eye on the pressure cooker which is cooking the squid with tomatoes, onions, wine, peppers and garlic.  It is going to be quite a feast which quite possibly will be two days meals.
