7th June, 2018 Thursday

Up at 5.15 a.m. and on our way by 5.55 a.m.  A damp morning with a black cloud lying over the hill.  The weather forecast showed wind all around the island.  The decision was made we would motor the 3.98 miles out of the bay and see how we get on once we can motored  away from the island.  The wind was recording 22 knots with a confused sea.  Jim even gave me the option to turn around and leave the next day but he was sure it would get better the more we travelled away from the high mountains. We decided to give it an hour and see how things were going. The sails were reefed down and on we sailed.  Gradually the wind started to drop and the sea less confused. All the way we weren’t making the course for Skopelos as we were on course for bumping into the top of Evia but gradually the wind dropped a little and we were able to tack for Skopelos.  The coast line from the first point at Velona is beautiful and we came past our favourite bay of Panormou where we will spend some time later in the week.  The houses and hotels have appeared to have grown in numbers since we were here 5 years ago.   After 56.51 k miles we entered Loutraki harbour and had to anchor as no spaces on the quay. The water temperature is 24.5 the best yet. I actually like anchoring here as you can look up at the town built very high above the harbour.  It was the quietest night we had experienced since we have been back.  No wind and no rolling it was an unbelievable sleep. Just an early morning cockerel in the distance. This is Greece!!!!!!!!!
