After visiting the market and picking up prawns and fresh fruit and Jim getting his hair cut we let go of the quay and started to motor and get the main up. Twenty minutes after leaving Jim said the wind is getting stronger by the minute should we carry on or motor into Gantry Bay as we call it or just jump the waves for a few hours. It wasn’t hard to make a decision and that was to make for Gantry Bay. With our 26 year granddaughter on board and it’s her first holiday in Greece we didn’t want her to feel uneasy.
We swam and had dinner before the white water became less. Finally we left around 8 pm for Poros. We had a lovely sunset and we motored with the main up nearly to the gap before we lost the daylight and we were nearly in pitch black.
Amazing how the stars become so much more visible once the darkness appears. We rounded the last island as Jim didn’t have any light to go through the gap.
As we were watching the stars we saw something very strange. Flying through the sky it looked like an express train or an airplane pulling a birthday message but not at nearly midnight. Poppy took a photograph and sent it home as the family follow the space programs. After a little research the answer came back that Space X had launched from California Thursday morning 55 satellites joined together called “star link” and it had been going over Greece at the time. I had witnessed a space launch 30 years ago from Cape Kennedy but this was something else. The moment lasted just about three minute but a fabulous sight.
We rocked and rolled down to Poros. The sea was very confused. Once through the gap where the disco was in full swing we looked at Navy Bay which looked packed so we motored down to the top end. Several boats were not lit up so difficult to see but we anchored and went to bed having covered just under 30 miles since we left Ermoni in the morning.
