Bergerac

19th June, 2009 until 22nd June, 2009.

As most people know Jim and I had been looking forward to a wedding in Bergerac for the last 15 months and finally the weekend had come.  We had hired a car and we headed out to the country side to arrive in time for the B-B-Q in the beautiful grounds arranged by the Chateau where we were staying.  It was a wonderful start to the weekend when we met up with our very good friends, Julie and Richard, their daughter Sarah, the bride and her bridegroom Simon and many friends who had travelled from England for this special occasion.

On Saturday we were collected from the Chateau for the 2 p.m. wedding and we were transported to the Abbey for a lovely service by an English lady minister who has resided in France for 12 years.  The ladies and gentlemen in the large choir were also English and who sing together in their local church.

The church was decorated beautifully and the bride arrived with her father looking radiant.  After a lovely service we were taken by coach to the reception where we enjoyed champagne in the gardens.  The bride and groom who had left the church in a vintage Bentley arrived at the reception in a carriage being pulled by two beautiful horses. We were so fortunate with the weather that the formal dinner was held in the courtyard with candles being lit once it got dark. To finish the evening we danced away to a disco after the wedding cake until our coach took us back to our chateau at 12.30 a.m.

On the Sunday we took it slowly and visited the old town of Bergerac before meeting up for dinner with our friends in the evening.  I did swim in the outdoor pool as the sun was shining which completely shocked Jim!!!

On Monday we made our way back to Royan to meet up with Jackie and Mark.
