2014 Season

We arrived back in Marmaris at the beginning of April via Istanbul and short flight to Dalaman to beautiful weather.  Ariel was in the same spot where we left her but unfortunately covered on the deck with over spray from the spraying which goes on in the yard without any direction from the marina staff.  With advice we have purchased a very expensive product and with lots of elbow grease we will have the problem solved in a few days.  Luckily when we polished the sides there was none on the silver blue. Three of the domestic batteries had to be replaced followed by the battery charger which was not working.  The electricians did a great job and it was fitted on delivery. Another solar panel to fit alongside the original one was ordered and delivered which Jim has fitted.  The chart plotter which we had carried back to England and had taken back to the factory to be told it only needed to be loaded with the latest soft ware decided once Jim had tried and tested to make sure it was okay and refitted to the pod outside to show the main screen in the boat at Marmaris and the repeater outside as being at Miami, Florida. Then both were on Miami.  Down to the Raymarine agent who came straight away and found the Raymarine computer in the back of a wardrobe once he unscrewed and removed the wardrobe lining.  He replaced a fuse and thirty euros later we were up and running again correctly showing Marmaris on both screens.  The outside shower head which lives in side the back locker perished so a replacement was purchased.   It did appear at one time as though everything was going wrong but it all got sorted and we were able to launch eight days after we arrived.  The work on the keel and the paint job on the back corners have been done to an excellent standard.

We have asked if we can continue our contract and be in the marina on a pontoon for a few extra days so we can get the sails on and generally sort ourselves out.  As it is safe with good security to leave Ariel we are going to take a trip further into Turkey to visit a few places of interest.

A few faces from last year have started to appear in the restaurant or boat yard which is good for asking about local knowledge.

We were invited to a local restaurant for Sunday lunch a couple of weeks ago.  It is run by an English couple who have only been in business for 16 weeks but the menu was great and the food wonderful.  They use a smoker and the fish delicious. The Missing Link is a small hotel with a pool and with a great feeling of nothing is too much trouble. We hope Karen and Paul have a great season.
