Astrous to Koiladhia

Monday, 15th October, 2012.

We had a great weekend in Astrous enjoying the lovely sunny weather, beach and walking up to the castle but now was the time we had to head to Koiladhia for the winter months.  The night before we left we had had a huge lightning storm after a wonderful day but we were safely on the wall and it soon passed.  The day had been like a beautiful July day in the UK but from nowhere quickly came the clouds and storm.

We had thought of waiting for the afternoon breeze but decided we would leave after breakfast just in case the wind did not appear.  We managed to sail all the way which was a lovely end to our summer.  We picked up a mooring in the bay and took down the sails and packed them away as they were wonderfully dry now after the sail of twenty miles.

Tuesday, 16th October, 2012.

We were up early as we had been requested to be ready on channel 77 for their call to the travel lift.  We were the first on the morning and as Jim motored into the channel he was a little worried as we only had ½ metre under the keel but we made it.  The five guys were ready and waiting for us with the owner observing it all and we didn’t need the lines we had ready as they directed us straight into the hoist.  Very soon we were off Ariel and she was up in the air and she was being moved to her winter home.  Later in the morning while we were at lunch she was hosed off.

We spent the next two days removing outdoor equipment, polishing, cleaning and generally doing a couple of jobs which needed doing now we were out of the water.

We managed one last swim at the beach and the water was like a warm bath.  We think the 18th October is probably a record for our last swim in the four years.
