We have seen some funny things over the last few days. One evening a chap some how fell out of his dinghy into the water at the quay and on full throttle the dinghy buzzed around the boats for over half an hour. A large taxi boat and a rib tried to catch it but each time it whizzed off in a different direction. It managed to hit two boats we heard before it was cornered and towed away. That was an expensive mistake as it had to be reclaimed!!!
Yesterday the naval ship arrived with cadets for the college. Poor lads in the heat were on the top of the ship for half an hour before they left for the college. This morning the rally at 8 o’clock was a little longer than usual of very nice trumpet playing.
There is a British gentleman on his own with his dog on a boat. The dog doesn’t like the motor running on the dinghy so the chap and dog sit in the dinghy until it gets as far as the shore or pontoon. It sometimes takes 10 or 15 minutes before they reach anywhere. Why doesn’t he row? Looks very strange.
Yesterday I arrived back at Ariel after having my hair cut to find Jim trying to stop a boat who had arrived next to us tying up with 6 lines with one across our paint work. Absolutely no wind so why 6 lines? He asked him to rope this line so it would still be on the cleft but wouldn’t cause us any damage. His neighbour in an Asmat motor boat took exception to this and came and threatened Jim. He thrusted his big fat stomach into Jim and told him he was a boxer and he would hit him in the face and send him into the water. Jim held his ground and very quietly said that’s okay you do that and you will be the one in a Greek prison. After swearing he wandered off to his motor boat and the chap who was causing the problem saw the error of his ways and changed the rope . You can be quite happy just sitting in the Skipper Bar having a morning coffee when some idiot spoils your day!!!
In the afternoon we were sat watching the world go by in Navy Bay and a dinghy from the next boat went on the drift. I tried calling them, blowing the whistle and Jim got the air horn out. They looked at us pointing at the dinghy but took no notice. Luckily a Greek chap saw the problem and went off in his dinghy which was in the water and saved the naughty drifting dinghy. He towed it back to the boat and by this time they had gone below. He tried shouting to them and with no response he tied the dinghy to their boat and he was just motoring away when they appeared wandering why he was by their boat!!!!
Today has started warm and sunny which is forecast to last for at least another two weeks so the canoes are out.
Another day in paradise outside one of our favourite houses!!!
