Friday 14th September, 2018.

We spent three days in Steni Vala.  We met Diana and David from Hampshire and Sue and Brian from Dorset all not many miles from our own home who are Cruising Association members.

We took the bus two days running once to the old town and had lunch as it was David and Dianna’s 47th wedding anniversary and the second day into the port to visit the museum and again we had lunch. The owner of the cafe and supermarket has had built the museum to exhibit everything he had collected over the years found on Alonnisos. It is a fascinating place with guns, costumes going back to the pirate times.  A large collection of War World II items like uniforms worn by the Greek servicemen are on show. The lower ground floor is divided into craft rooms and displayed are all the early tools used for carpentry, shoeing horses, olive pressing etc. Now when people find anything to do with the war or earlier they offer it to the museum so the space rooms are gradually being filled. Everything is beautifully labelled and in several languages. It is a wonderful idea they came up with and were able to provide the funds for the building.  Congratulations go to Costas and Angela for their brilliant contribution to Alonnisos.
