24th May, 2011.
We left La Caletta just after 9 a.m. this morning and arrived in Olbia at 3.40 p.m. We had a north/ north westerly wind on the nose all the way along the coast so we had to motor sail.
Not far along the coast from La Caletta is the town of Posada which is one of the prettiest towns on the eastern coast. The pastel cottages tumble down a hill below the sturdy medieval Castello de Fava or in English “Bean Castle”. The old town is renown for being an atmospheric place to stroll and browse with a view to die for.
Another town we passed by was San Teodoro which is famous for its beaches, water sports and nightlife and attracts the young from mainland Italy as a holiday spot.
After 20 miles we turned and headed around Capo Coda Cavalo and passed Molara Island to our port. The angle of our sail changed and out came our front sail and off went the engine and we were romping along at 8.80 knots until we fell into a hole by the big island of Tavolara and we lost the wind completely. It was good while it lasted and therefore we motored into Olbia having covered 30 miles and found a little space for ourselves on the old town quay where we are staying for a day or two while we entertain some special little people who are coming on holiday!
