We left La Coruna just after 10 a.m. and the day started with bright sunshine with a NNE wind force 3.  We close reached out of the bay past the Torres de Hercules lighthouse. After a couple of hours we sailed the islands of Sisargas and onto the wild headland at Cabo Villano.  We were by this stage surfing at 10 knots.  We rounded the headland and went into the Ria at Camarinas at 5 p.m.  We covered 53.3 miles in 7 hours.

Camarinas was originally a whaling station.  The town is lined with pretty pastoral colour houses.  The town is famous for its bobbin lace which is hand made.  It dates from the Middle Ages and today there are about 2000 ladies in Camarinas who are experts in lace making.  It consists on interlacing, twisting and handle thin threads which are wound up on wooden sticks.  We watched 4 ladies in a shop making lace.  Every Easter the town hosts a four day festival to present their lace products made over the winter.

The present Queen of Spain is known to wear clothing made by the lace makers of Camarinas.
