We left Othoni and motored between the islands of Erikoussa
and Mathraki and around the north coast of Corfu into the North Corfu Channel
between Corfu and Albania. We were very
surprised how high the mountains of Albania are. We saw a couple of very built up towns
consisting of high rise flats on the Albanian coast with the bare hard
mountains in the back ground. Whereas,
on Corfu Island we were spying the beautiful villas of all sharps and
sizes. Some were facing out from
beautiful bays which look very good for Ariel anchoring another time depending
on the wind.
We motored on and although we had the genoa sail in and out
and we had to give up as the wind dropped to nothing. We covered 34.16 nautical miles into the
harbour area of Gouvia just along from Corfu town where two cruise liners were
moored. We have anchored opposite the
priceless large villas with their own beach area and it is very pleasant with
fantastic views 360 degrees. Not too
impressed last night as one of the villas had a huge party with three huge
boats moored at the end of their garden.
The music was still going at 5.30 this morning and the flashing lights
were a nuisance across the whole bay.
Hopefully tonight it will be quiet!!!!
From now on as we have several sets of friends flying into
Corfu we will be around this area for quite a few weeks visiting lots of
different bays and towns along the way.
It appears to be a good choice and after visiting Gouvia marina we are
pleased to see it is not going to cost us a fortune like Italy if the weather
changes and we need to go in for cover.
The marina has a swimming pool, a good shower block, laundry and lots of
very nice restaurants as well as a chandlery, car hire, bike hire, kids play
ground, jewellery and small shops. The
atmosphere is very relaxed and with the hot sunshine, clear water to swim in,
views we are very happy.
