Langkawi to Uligan Day 3 - Much the same
Position 06:03.39 N 091:42.99 E Date 1200 (UTC+7) Tuesday 24 February 2016 Distance run in 24hrs 156nm over the ground, 140nm through the water Trip total 480nm over the ground, 399nm through the water To go to Uligan, Maldives 1,128nm – 1,605 total route distance Sorry about yesterday’s first posting I must have been hallucinating when I entered the run figures and least there be any misunderstanding we are going to Uligan, Maldives and not Kupang, Indonesia – the latter mistake being a word processing one and useless roof reading. We continue to head west at a reasonable rate helped by a very large slug of favourable current; we would not be wishing to go in the other direction. We continue downwind under poled genoa, main and mizzen. A new technique learned form Christoph and to which he was introduced on their Indonesian trip is when the wind goes towards the beam from astern is to ease the pole forward and reef it slightly. This results in a stable genoa not being blanketed by the main and a better speed. The birthday dinner was had in two sittings. It was an excellent tagine of lamb with couscous. We had non-alcoholic sun downers together and Elizabeth ate at 2300 whilst I ate when I came on watch at 0300. In the meantime, I had two calls on deck once to help with pole and sail adjustment and once to deal with a course change for an incoming ship. |
