Penang Island is quite large and that is proved by motoring up the long side of it.  An interesting experience which included two bridges with a clearance of about 4 to 6 metres but which from deck level looking up appears more like 4 to 6 millimetres.

The southern, “New” bridge stretches 9.5nm (17.5km).  An amazing piece of engineering

Passing the older part of Georgetown provided great views of colonial era buildings and a replica of the London cenotaph

Entry to the Straits Quay Marina is advisable HW +/- 1 hour as the approach is rather shallow.  We arrived on time and saw no less than 3.5 metres of depth.  We are told the mud is very soft.  The instructions about the approach issued by the marina are good.  As you travel down the track of the leading marks you take a 90 degree turn to starboard to round close to the breakwater on your starboard side.
