A week in Queens Creek, Mathews and then back to the UK

Date 2359
Monday 14 May 2012 Our first Sunday in Queens Creek saw an outing to the Mathews American
Legion Post for breakfast. We are not sure that we will get to grips with ‘Grits’, a
sort of meal slurry and obviously something that you require in your DNA, but
the rest of the breakfast was great and the visit to the Post an
experience. Breakfast is a monthly fund raiser and well supported. Then it was back to the boat and docking on the top of the tide. This
was made much easier by having four extra people to help. This is the most idyllic
place to moor a boat and we count ourselves very fortunate to be invited here. We had intended once we had established that we would fit we would go
off for a few days. In the event this did not happen. We had an
urgent requirement to get Elizabeth was able to get a seat on the same flight as Anne and Mike
and also able to share their taxi to Washington on Friday which left me to
finish closing the boat and eating my way through the mountain of over
provisioning, with the help of Chris and Bill. I did manage to fit in a short sail after helping Chris and Bill launch
their boat, Plover, in Deltaville and sail it back across the river to Queens
Creek. A weekend of stowing, cleaning and more cleaning eventually got to
Monday 14 May with everything closed down, a hire car organised with pick up at
the boat and a 180 mile drive to Washington Dulles and a flight to the Footnote - Elizabeth was able to get to her Father in Broadway and
spend time with him before he passed peacefully away on Wednesday 16th
May at the fine age of 92 years. |
