The fog having cleared by late morning we decided to cut and run for Long Island and Frenchboro.

Approach to Frenchboro from the east

Last year we anchored in East Cove thinking that the harbour was too tight for us.  This year we decided to go and take a look and we are delighted that we did.  The harbour, Lunt’s Harbor, currently has a good number of large white buoys laid by the Corps of Engineers with large granite blocks and good up to date ground tackle.  They are also free on a first come basis.  We took one at the outer edge of the harbour to allow enough room to swing with the tide.

This is the view from Lunt’s Lobster Deli where we showed our gratitude for the mooring by eating on our first evening.  Caduceus is the white blob, still illuminated by the sun as it goes down behind the headland.

Our position in the harbour also had the advantage that we benefited from some spectacular sunsets denied to the inner moorings.

The island has some marked trails and is a delightful spot if all you want is quiet, good scenery (almost alpine), walking, lobster and more lobster.

We are now going to sit out a few days, enjoy the island and allow a front to pass through with associated fog and higher winds.
