Under the guise of waiting for high water at 1430, a not unreasonable idea given a decided ridge in the seabed between our berth and more open water, we indulged in a gentle morning with the odd walk into town for those essential items that we had both forgotten.  The Mate required eggs, I desperately required some form of information on local birds, of the feathered variety; shows very well our different perspectives on life.

The Mate also managed to fit in a walk and a swim in the hotel’s heated pool and Jacuzzi.  I somehow managed to fill the time and do not very much.

The aim for the afternoon was to get 10 miles south out of Bar Harbor so as to be in a good position for the push east on Wednesday.  Sunshine and 10 knots of breeze, albeit on the nose, meant that we spent a very pleasant afternoon beating down to Little Cranberry Island which lies 2nm south of the east end of Mount Desert Island and where we anchored off the village of Islesford.

As I write excellent smells are coming from the galley where the eggs, previously mentioned, are being put to good use in a Spanish omelette.  I had better go and do something useful with my bird book!
