An 0800 start saw us threading our way out of New Harbour Block Island and setting a course for Cuttyhunk, at the western end of the chain of Elizabeth Islands that lead up to the Cape Cod Canal and separate Buzzards Bay from Vineyard Sound.  We did not think that we could get into Cuttyhunk Harbour which has a mean depth of 7ft in the channel and as the mooring outside looked rather exposed and we actually had a sailable wind, albeit up the stern, we decided to press on to Wings Neck where the Ocean Cruising Club Port Officer, Toby Baker, had offered a free mooring in Pocasset Harbour.

Not a bad sail; we were able to carry the genoa and main wing on wing for most of the afternoon which helps add nearly a couple of knots to the speed.

Toby had said that he might be out sailing when we arrived and sure enough there was an escort awaiting us in his very smart yacht “Torch”; note the OCC flag at the port crosstrees.

The entrance into the harbour is quite narrow but carries a reasonable depth and we picked up an excellent mooring.

Yet another delightful harbour and the bonus of an excellent host who briefed us on the area and facilities available.  Tomorrow we will have a lay day and take the bicycles ashore.  Apart from anything else I have a requirement for some oil to carry out a change on the generator and this may be available from a boatyard further around the harbour.
