Update: 2:05PM A TSUNAMI warning has been issued by the Mineral Resources Department following an earthquake measuring 7.7 magnitude on the Richter Scale in Papua New Guinea at 11am today.
According to the department, a potential tsunami has been forecasted with waves below 0.3metres.
The department has warned coastal dwellers in Fiji to be on high alert and monitor wave activity.
"The first wave to arrive will be within the next 2.5 hours which is 4.30pm (Fiji time) near the Yasawa Group."
Members of the public are reminded to take the necessary precautions and remain alert.
"Please take note of any changes to wave patterns and keep listening to radio/media for further updates."
