There does not seem to be the same commercial hysteria.
Yesterday I talked to a women that moved here from Wales nine years ago and her theory was that
the combo of summer vacation and christmas makes the latter less stressed. People are simply looking forward to be free from work
and have a good time.
In most parts of Northern Europe christmas is the only light in the tunnel and thereby it gets out of proportion. Sounds very reasonable.
Our kids are hysterical about christmas, they talk about gifts every day. Either they are starving for some new toys or we have done something wrong.
Whatever, we do have a christmas tree (2dm high), some Santa Claus made of LEGO, and lots of paintings done as "gifts".
As adults we simply look forward to spend christmas with our NZ friends and relax from the boat.
