We were about to leave port yesterday, the whole route figured out with tidal currents etc.
We run a checklist before leaving and since we had a few drops of diesel coming off the engine since Falmouth I did an extra check above it. And found a deep crack in the outer mantle on a pipe that leads the ovflow diesel back to the tank. Made a call with those that serviced it, they thought it was no problem as long as it was not open. A mechanic that happened to be in the neibourghs boat servicing thought otherwise ( he had a boat recently where the pipe blew underway and it was a big mess in the engine room) and recommended a shop that could make new fittings and change if I could get it out.
Well that took the day and our "tide train" went by.
Today Force 5-7 is a bit rought to go out so we will spend another day...in Dover
