To anybody planning on a long voyage, let me tell you what a great feeling it is to have somebody ashore that is prepared to help you out.
To us it was a tremendous priviledge when we where offered this help from one of my fathers best friend Dag Engström. My father used to be the person who always kept track on where I was sailing. He never had any opinions on what I was doing, he just wanted to know where I was. That was always good to know that he cared and that in turn gave a sense of security. Before setting off from Falmouth last summer Dag offered us his help as a DP (Designated Person), we never heard about it before, but it was imidietaly accepted and with Dags enormous knowledge (being a Captain on commercial vessels all his life) it felt great to take off. So in a way he has taken over my fathers roll but added a lot of experience (my father died in December, and before he left us he interviewed Dag about how he felt we where doing and how safe it was). So far we have not needed any big help but we get some advice now and then. It is a huge priviledge to have Dag with us and one thing we realize he is doing for our family, as he keeps track of us, nobody else has to worry why there was no message coming today etc.
