Pienia hommia veneessa riittaa. Inkivaariporsasta padassa, erinomaista. Mearra Nieida on putspiut puhdas ja tuoksuu hyvalle. Mikas on miehiston ollessa.
Meidan suunnitelmamme Galapagos- saarten suhteen on muuten seuraava: Ensin suuntaamme saarelle nimelta San Cristobal ja siella ankkuroidumme  Puerto Baquerizo nimisen kylan edustalle. San Cristobalilla olemme arviolta kolme paivaa. Sen jalkeen purjehdimme Isabela- saarelle. Siina menee yksi paiva ja yo siirtyessa. Isabelalla ankkuroidumme Puerto Villamil nimisen kylan edustalla olevaan luonnonsatamaan. Isabelalla olemme 4 paivaa. Viimeinen kohteemme on saari nimelta Santa Cruz. Purjehdus sinne onnistuu yhdessa paivassa. Santa Cruzin saarella sijaitsee retkemme paakohde Darwin- museo.

Monday February 15, 2016

We have been at sea now for roughly 72 hours since the start, and have made very good headway towards San Christobal island in Galapagos. We have done about 550 miles in the last 72 hours, and have about 300 miles left to sail, and given the current forecast, it will take us another 36 hours. We should be crossing the equator in about 24 hours, which in it self is something worth mentioning.

The sailing conditions have gone from good to very challenging, back to good. During the second night we hit some very stiff winds, up towards 40 knots in the gusts, and heavy swell. It made for a fairly sleepless night for all of us, cat napping is about all we could get to given the motion onboard. Capt Pekka got a big splash of water through the hatch in his cabin, which he had unexpectedly left open for some fresh air. Tero found himself under about half of the boats library, Hanna got most of our fruits and veggies on top of her, as they were hanging in nets above her bed. Kicka again dropped down on Michel’s bed, no harm done as he was up on deck with Pekka, Jukka and Jaana, dealing with sails and sheets. The whole situation was a very good example of what may happen at sea – we went from very slow winds, moderate swell and a beautiful star studded sky to the described conditions in a matter of 20-30 minutes. We had no major incidents on deck and got things under control well, but still had good reason for a post mortem and a lessons learned session afterwards.

The wind settled during Sunday and we ended up celebrating Valentines Day with a very nice crepes dinner prepared by Jukka. We all slept like babies between our shifts after that, and are rested and in great spirits at this hour.

Pekka is back to his favorite past time, fixing stuff. One of the compass pedestals had been ripped off its footing in the nightly hustle, and is now re-aligned and re-installed. He is now off to the next thing, fixing the vacuum cleaner, to everybody’s delight!! The aft seating area can then go back to its original purpose, after having served as a work shop.

Kicka is preparing a pork-veggie wok lunch, some folks are dealing with chores and others reading and enjoying the 90F sunny day.

We did spot a small pod of dolphins this morning, but have missed some whale pods seen by our fellow cruisers. We had the lure out for most day yesterday, but had no bites. We’re hopping to fix that today – the ginger and wasabi condiments are ready to go!!

We will today start the preparations for arriving in Galapagos – the administration involved is amazing!! We all understand and appreciate that Galapagos has to be protected from outside contaminants etc, but the amount of useless paperwork and procedures unfortunately makes one think that this effort is going to fail. It is understandable that the hulls of the boats have to be cleaned from foreign organisms, and that one cannot dump black waste in the area, but that we have to attach all kinds of procedural rules and stickers in the boat, and have five different local authorities come and inspect our compliance before we can go ashore, is just inefficient and silly. Still, we hope they will achieve the ultimate goal of protecting Galapagos.

All good on Mearra Nieida, more reporting to come!
