I
It was a typically gray evening when we arrived in Compiegne
.

Thanks to Fred and Grete, we eat very well. Roast duck tonight. Naturally, I had to fly our flag somewhere.

We woke to a sunny day and took in the sights……commercial barge traffic, a magnificent palace which Napoleon had built and he spent quite some years here.

This is the back entrance! Fred and Grete are trying to check out the furniture. Nice sunset over the river.

After a cold night, we woke to a sunny morning. Not far out of Compiegne we left the main river of l’oise and took a smaller river with less traffic. Between locks, this is my favoured spot. Amazing contrasts….looking up I saw the jet streams of dozens of passenger jets criss-crossing in the clear blue sky……rushing here and there……..while we crept along at about 10 kms per hour. And there is a yellow Citroen Postal van who scurries past us while we’re in a lock, then 20 mins later, buzzes across a bridge above us…..we must have seen him 5 or 6 times today. Another fantastic day.
