Sans Peur

Another beautiful village. It’s been cold all day, typical European Autumn weather. I’m rugged up and loving it. I have a special “Max” seat up near the bow where I sit, all rugged up in my Bunnings beanie in “Maxworld" and listening to the 3500 songs that Irena put on my iPod 4 years ago. Thank you Irena. (I hope you don’t mind that I skip over most of the Russian folk songs.) It’s quite magical watching the riverside panorama unfolding before us, travelling against the current at about 8 kms per hr. The cyclists are passing us….even the joggers and their wheezy old dogs are passing us….but I don’t care. I’m loving it. Tomorrow we have to travel 68 kms and negotiate 6 locks, so Maxworld will get interrupted from time to time. The locks can be quite stressful sometimes and Grete says that me being here has made life easier for her. They told me of a lock incident before I joined them and they were still on a steep learning curve. They were safely ensconced in a big lock when a huge 100 metre long barge came storming in at high speed and “skidded” to a stop beside them. The Dutch skipper leaned out of his lofty cabin and said “Sans Peur?(translation…Without Fear)
