Arrival Report - Yacht Haven Marina, Phuket
08 10.237 N 098 20.44 E We had a quick (tide was running with us giving a 1 - 2 kt up tick on speed over ground) run up the 27 nm north to Yacht Haven this morning. The first hour was TOUGH….it seemed like we were in the North Atlantic…winds 25 - 30 kts with short period nasty seas coming right over the bow and water sweeping down the foredeck to the deck saloon….NOT PLEASANT!!!.....but, as we were gradually able to turn more to the north and take the seas more on the starboard bow, things improved a lot. No problems getting fueled up on arrival at the marina and then to our pontoon where we are tied up at C44…..where Sea Mist will rest for at least a week with Cheryl as the Master….and me gone to Melbourne. I will be back on March 5th …landing at Phuket airport late evening. We had a nice surprise greeting as we tied up: Gary (S/V Pursuit IV) whom we met first in Vanuatu saw us coming in and wanted to extend a welcome. Gary is from Milton?Georgetown, Ontario…..home very close by where our son, Shawn , and family live. After some time with Gary, along came a fellow Oyster owner, David and Val (SV Kanaloa…a 1990 Oyster 55 out of the UK)….they had hailed us on VHF radio about a month ago when they were sailing about 5 nm behind us as we were enroute from Ko Lanta to Ao Chalong. We had a great visitwith David this afternoon…..and he has invited us to join them and another couple for dinner tomorrow evening (Sat) at a restaurant on the mainland, just across the only bridge that connects Phuket to mainland Thailand. We are looking forward to the outing....I just need to make sure that I get up to catch a taxi to the airport a bit before 6 am on Sunday. That's all for now….next check in on our blog may not be for a week. |
