Passage to Kalabahi, Alor.... in Photos
We had to leave around 4:30 am from Kupang as it was a long way to Alor Island. We got to see the sun rise and set. I started to take these photos at 7:45am and finished at 8:03am, the reason I am including times is the vast difference between the skies at sunrise. The sun was just coming up so you get the pinks and mauves, but as it continues the colours become more intense. Finally the sun comes up like molten lava And you get this crazy looking sky. We had different views of the sunset, one from the volcano behind us and the rest along the waterway we were travelling up towards Kalabahi, Alor Island. We forget about the volcanoes they are everywhere, we are now entering the fjord to get to our next destination. View Two The yellows against the black mountains was awesome, thank goodness we have cameras that can show us our photos immediately. Instant gratification that is good. We left our sunset and travelled up the fjord or waterway and this is what we missed in the dark, our radar was pinging like crazy only we could not see what it was pinging some of the time, and now we know why...this is what we saw the next morning. These fishing bamboo structures are very difficult to pick up in the dark, we had many of these fisherman waving flashlights, yet, we know we just motored on by some that we never saw. Welcome to The villagers burn a lot of garbage and cook with open wood or coconut grills so there is always a haze in most of the villages. The people of Indonesia are very friendly and the children love to say hello to us, they are very polite and ask for simple things like school books, reading books and scribblers. I think we need to pass this info onto the next group of sail boats visiting Indonesia; we would have gone to the bookstores that sold school supplies that is what these kids on the islands are looking for. |
