Kelimutu is a sacred place to the locals, here is the story.

The colours are opaque; they look like the paint in paint cans.  We saw the black, turquoise and blue.  This next plaque depicts the lives of the Indonesian people; we have been in the villages where they do the dancing, cooking, making things.

These are the first steps to get to the two lakes and these are the steps that take you to the top where you see all three lakes.

This is the first lake; it looks like three shades of turquoise paint.

Same lake, what a difference in colour.

The sky blue photo of the lake I took from mid-range and John took the light blue lake photo from the inspiration point at the top of mountain, and lastly the Black Lake.  I was hoping one of the lakes might be red, alas, no!
