Robinson Crusoe Island

   m_IMG_8948

Our last stop before we have to say goodbye to Shelia and Stuart and head over to Vanuatu.  We arrived just as the sun was coming up and what a pleasant surprise this island held for all of us.  The owners are from Australia and were sailors before they bought the resort...it just gets better!  They will shop for groceries for yachties, they go into town twice a week and all you have to do it provide a grocery list, and then pick up your groceries, they have the best Fire & Custom Dance in Fiji, provide full massages and have Happy Hour!

There was one boat called Monkey Feet, (their son performed in one of the dances) they were at the resort for a month, it was a great place for their two younger boys to meet other kids their ages & they never had to worry about provisioning.

This building is the office, reception and bar.

The Grotto Pool

We never did find Friday...

This is one of the cottages you can rent for the week, all very folksy.

There is a lot to do, hikes, river rides, diving, snorkelling, kayaking, etc.

The next day we decided to explore some of the streams off the main river.

We met The ‘Hippy Dippy’ fisherman, fishing for crab.

Some of the streams were lush and looked like a Monet painting, whilst others were filled with dead mangroves.

We had a totally different experience each day, one filled with sunshine, birds and fishermen, whilst the other dark and gloomy without the sunlight as the branches grow right over and create a tunnel.

No Crocs...but this duck did a high stepping dance for the female.

Try and find a heron to take a photo when travelling at 3 miles per hour and he is way up in the tree

The wasps look like they are made out of acrylic.

The wasps make their nests on tree trunks using the mud from the streams.

Acrylic wasp’s mud house!

The next day we went up another stream that took us to the other side of the island and lots of very nice resorts very nice resorts, did I say that?

Mom and her foal met us as we walked up the path from the stream.

This was our first glimpse of the other side, Yes, sometimes the grass is greener on the other side.

Security patrols the beach on horseback, easier to patrol.

We looked at the sand and water and really wanted to go swimming, unfortunately no swim suits!

These resort companies know what to look for, crystal clear water, ranging in shades of blue you only see in oils, and white sand beaches that go on forever.

Lunch then back to reality.

There are more Cannibal restaurants and bars in Fiji than anywhere else, and yet, we always get our pictures taken in front of these establishments!
